The Daily Express newspaper, the fifth most read in the United Kingdom, has published an article in which it highlights that "while Lanzarote is witnessing protests against the pressure of mass tourism, and has more than 21,000 overnight stays per square kilometer," there is a Canary Island that "is taking a very different approach."

This is El Hierro, which the London newspaper highlights as an alternative destination to the "islands with all-inclusive resorts."

The British newspaper relies on data from the European Commission, which has calculated the tourist pressure of Lanzarote at 21,673 overnight stays per square kilometer, while in El Hierro it is 610 per square kilometer.

The Daily Express explains that, in El Hierro, "even its largest hotel has fewer than 50 rooms, and the places are distributed among small hotels, rural houses and family accommodations."

"There is no busy nightlife here, just natural pools, mountain farms and trails with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean," the article continues.

It also highlights its commitment to sustainability. "El Hierro is a considerably wilder island compared to the nearby islands and has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, with the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050."

"Visitors to El Hierro can explore natural pools formed over thousands of years of erosion, with intricate shapes, as well as impressive places such as the Mirador de la Peña, the Guinea Ecomuseum, the Lagartario sanctuary for the endangered El Hierro lizard and the unique twisted trees of El Sabinar," the newspaper recommends.

"They can also enjoy activities such as diving in La Restinga, hiking along ancient trails and discovering the cultural heritage of El Julán park," it adds.
