Cruise ship tourists in Arrecife

Cruise tourism is recovering strongly in Arrecife after the hard years of the pandemic. Between the months of January and September of this 2023, it has received 85.9% more cruise passengers than last year, according to the Lanzarote Data Center with figures from the Port Authority of Las Palmas.

Arrecife received a total of 162,021 passengers in the same period of last year, and during 2023 the amount has risen to 287,995 people.

In the twelve months of last 2022, the capital of Lanzarote received a total of 335,239 people and the forecasts for this coming quarter indicate that these figures will be greatly exceeded, with the scale forecasts of the Port Authority of Las Palmas.

The mayor of Arrecife, and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Yonathan de León, has highlighted that "these statistics endorse the good tourist year, with cruise tourism, that the city is experiencing, contributing to employment and the local economy."

The cruises that remain to arrive in October

The first mayor has remarked that the Arrecife City Council is promoting a series of plans to boost the open commercial area to support the small business and hospitality sector.

In addition, the City Council has several municipal works underway to transform the urban image of the city, with actions on its maritime front - including the El Reducto area - where the main urban beach of Arrecife is located, very frequented by tourists staying in the hotels in the area, and those who arrive on the island in ocean liners.

In the middle of the high season, the capital of Lanzarote will experience this weekend, the last of October, a unique image in its port area with the stopovers on Friday 27 of the large cruise ships Norwegian Dawn, AidaPerla and Mein Schiff 1, which will also stay overnight that night to remain docked in Arrecife with German tourists until Saturday night.

On Sunday, the Sea Cloud, propelled by sail, will arrive, en route from Agadir, and will remain docked until noon. It will set sail for Gran Canaria, after 1 p.m.   And on October 31, the Spirit of Discovery will arrive, recently built and sailing since 2020.  It will arrive in Lanzarote after a three-day voyage from the port of Barcelona.
