The number of houses for sale has decreased by 17% in the province of Las Palmas during the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to data provided by the real estate portal Idealista.com.
At the national level, the drop has been even greater, 20%, and it is the largest year-on-year decrease ever recorded by the aforementioned portal.
The province in which the availability of homes for sale has decreased the most is Vizcaya, with a decrease of 35%, followed by Segovia (-33%), La Rioja (-33%), Álava (-32%), Zaragoza, Asturias, Salamanca and Palencia (-30% in all 4 provinces).
In the Community of Madrid, the reduction in supply is 27%, while in the province of Barcelona it reaches 22%.
According to Francisco Iñareta, spokesperson for idealista, "many administrations are not capable of bringing new homes to the market nor do they consider that new housing should be built, perhaps for fear of ghosts from the bubble years."
"However," he continues, "faced with a perfect storm like the one we are experiencing - increased population, falling interest rates and an unattainable rental market that shifts part of the demand to the purchase market - the worst mistake that can be made is not to build housing."
