The Canary Islands Vacation Rental Association rejects Jéssica de León's accusations and denounces that the Bill threatens thousands of families and SMEs that depend on this economic activity.

The Canary Islands Vacation Rental Association (ASCAV) has responded to the Minister of Tourism, Jéssica de León, after accusing them of "clouding the democratic process" in relation to the processing of the Law on Sustainable Planning of the Tourist Use of Housing.

From the Association they assure that it "is made up of free citizens in full exercise of their civil rights who legitimately defend their rights through legally established channels. That we do not allow ourselves to be run over by a Bill that definitively expels Canarian families who are dedicated to vacation rentals, does not imply that we 'cloud the democratic process'."

"It is the Ministry of Tourism itself that has presented a Bill to end vacation homes, not appearing in the electoral program and against thousands of its own voters. Hundreds of citizens, voters of the Popular Party, have publicly demonstrated on social networks, as they have felt deceived by that political party in which the Minister of Tourism militates," they continue.

In addition, they point out that "it is also surprising that the Minister says that she is not aware that ASCAV has filed a complaint against her Ministry with the European Commission and that it has been admitted for processing. In any case, we attach a copy as proof and for your information."

ASCAV concludes by stating that they "deeply regret the situation of confrontation on the part of the Ministry of Tourism with the only representative of vacation homes in the Canary Islands and hopes that this situation can be reversed for the sake of an accommodation modality that, today, represents an important economic source for thousands of Canary Islands families and SMEs that are nourished by vacation homes."
