Visi González: “Lanzarote, its essence and lifestyle inspire my designs”

The creator of the Macaronesia swimwear brand explains what distinguishes her swimsuits from other proposals in an interview with Ekonomus

Visi González at the Lanzarote Moda showroom in Madrid.

Visi González was always a lover of crafts and creativity. In Barcelona, she trained in pattern making and sewing and specialized in swimsuits.

Her brand, Macaronesia, is one of the main firms included in the Lanzarote Moda initiative. In an interview with Ekonomus, she explains what distinguishes her swimsuits and shares her expansion plans.

  • How does the island of Lanzarote influence your designs?

Lanzarote, its essence and its lifestyle have a lot to do with my designs. For me, Macaronesia is much more than a swimwear brand, it is an island lifestyle, and therefore, Lanzarote is the perfect place.

That's where the inspiration comes from, its beaches, its sunsets, its tranquility and its nature. That is what I want to represent with each design.

  • How were you trained?

I have always liked crafts and creativity. I have done cross-stitch, crochet... Then I started making bracelets with natural stones, which I still do.

For professional reasons, I went to Barcelona and there I took courses in pattern making, sewing and design. Then I did a specialized course in swimwear.

  • What distinguishes your swimsuits from other proposals?

On the one hand, the materials, because they are made of recycled polyester, and on the other hand, the exclusivity. I make very few units per size. For some models there are only one or two per size.

  • Where can they be found?

On the internet, through macaronesiaswin.com and on social networks. I also have an office/showroom in the business incubator of the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce. You can make an appointment and come and see the collection.

  • How many pieces are there in your latest collection? What sells the most?

More than pieces, we talk about looks, because they are interchangeable. There are about 15. What sells the most are the trikinis. It is a product that attracts a lot of attention, it is different.

  • What is the production process like?

I work everything from the Canary Islands. We have the sustainable company seal. The fabric arrives white and I do the design and choose the prints. Then the textile printing company sublimates the design onto the fabric, which goes directly to the workshop for cutting.

  • What are your future plans?

I would like to extend the brand and have physical points of sale also outside the Canary Islands. In Madrid we currently have a showroom for fashion professionals, near the Congress of Deputies, through Moda Lanzarote.

I also want to launch a line of bags and toiletry bags. In addition, I would like to expand the men's line, the boys are asking me for bermudas and hopefully this summer I can launch them, technically they are different.
