Young people from the Canary Islands, the most willing to leave the country for work

They are also the most confident in the employability of their studies, most believe they will find a job within a year

80.1% of young people from the Canary Islands are willing to change countries to work, according to the IX Young Business Talents Report, on the attitudes and trends of young Spanish pre-university students.

Together with Catalans and Murcians, who obtained the same percentage, they are the Spanish young people most willing to leave Spain for work. The national average stood at 74.5%, according to the report prepared by ABANCA, ESIC, Herbalife and Praxis MMT.

In addition, young people from the Canary Islands are the most optimistic about their future employment, 78.4% believe that what they are studying now will be useful for their professional career, the national average is 72.8%.

63.1% believe that they will get a job in less than a year after finishing their studies; 57.4% believe that their generation is better prepared than that of their parents and that they will get a better job than that of their parents (79.5%).

According to the results of this study, carried out on pre-university students who are in 4th year of ESO, 1st and 2nd year of Bachillerato and the basic, intermediate and higher cycles of Vocational Training, 50.6% of students from the Canary Islands believe that youth employment will be better or much better in five years.

Regarding the factors they consider most important when it comes to finding employment are: interest and desire to work (63.6%), having a good level of languages (54%), knowledge (52.3%), experience (45.5%), and a good academic record (29.5%).

 

Business, advertising and law, the most demanded careers

Regarding the choice of studies, 58.5% of pre-university students from the Canary Islands plan to study a degree, compared to 20% who will not go to university and will study something else, and 21% who are undecided and still do not know what they will do.

Regarding the qualifications that arouse the greatest interest are: Business and Economics (31.8%), Marketing and Advertising (29.5%), Law (18.6%), Psychology/Sociology (17.8%) and Teaching (17.1%).

Regarding the professional activity that they would like to do in the future, 30.1% have an entrepreneurial vocation and would like to set up their own company or be a self-employed professional; followed by 26.7% who are undecided and still do not know; 26.1% who want to be civil servants, and working in a company in last place (17%).

On the other hand, when asked about the sources they use to stay informed, 61.4% opt for social networks, compared to 35.2% who choose traditional media such as newspapers, digital media, radio or television; and 3.4% who declare that they are not interested in current affairs.

Lastly, for 96% of young people from the Canary Islands it is important to be informed of current affairs in order to train, and when it comes to documenting themselves to do a job, almost all pre-university students (89.8%) search the Internet and compare different sources; 5.1% search in sources outside the Internet, 3.4% consult Wikipedia, and 1.7% copy the first thing they see without checking the information.
