Unemployment decreased in Lanzarote by 1,014 people during 2023, which is equivalent to a drop of 11.3%, according to data from the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan).
Unemployment decreased in Lanzarote more than in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, where it decreased by 7.1% and 9.4% respectively. On the other hand, it decreased slightly more in Fuerteventura, where it reached 12%.
By sex, most of the people who found employment last year in Lanzarote were women (590).
According to age, most of the Lanzarote residents who left the unemployment lists, 622 people, are over 45 years old. Between 25 and 44 years old there were 353 workers, while among the youngest the list was reduced by 39 people.
By municipalities, the largest percentage decrease was experienced in Yaiza, where unemployment was reduced by 15.9%, which is equivalent to 110 people. Then Arrecife, which with a decrease of 13%, has 599 fewer citizens on the unemployment lists.
The decrease in unemployment in Tías was 12.2%, which is equivalent to 115 fewer unemployed than the previous year, while in San Bartolomé it was 8%, 79 fewer people in unemployment.
In Tinajo and Haría, unemployment fell by 8.1% and 5.5% respectively, equivalent to 18 fewer unemployed in the north, while in Tinajo it is equivalent to 28 fewer unemployed.
