The Canary Islands was the second autonomous community in the country that generated the most employment in the tourism sector between April and June with an increase of 10.7% in the number of employees. During that period, tourism has generated jobs for 271,204 people.
The data comes from the latest Active Population Survey (EPA), which shows how the Balearic Islands grew the most in employment in the tourism sector, with an increase of 18.1%. Between April and June, tourism gave work to 202,157 people in the Balearic archipelago.
Only Catalonia, Andalusia, Madrid and the Valencian Community exceed these data, in absolute numbers, regions with much more active population, with 487,314, 454,304, 440,033 and 279,779, respectively. Of all of them, the Valencian Community is the only one that suffers an interannual decline (-4%), while the other three experience increases that range between 3.7% and 7.2%.
Together, the six account for 74.5% of the total employed in tourism in Spain.
