Island Council Employment Plans

The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Thursday the Municipal Employment Plans 2024-2025, an initiative promoted by the Island Institution that achieves the hiring and training of unemployed people in the seven municipalities of the island. The event, held in the assembly hall of the Cabildo, was attended by the president Oswaldo Betancort and the Minister of Employment, Jesús Machín, who welcomed the dozens of workers benefited by this program.

The Island Corporation has allocated 1.5 million euros to these employment plans that have allowed the hiring of 101 people in unemployment. In addition, for the next year, an increase of 100,000 euros has been planned with the aim of prolonging the duration of the contracts and strengthening job stability on the island, which has been received with satisfaction among those hired.

Oswaldo Betancort stated that “it is essential that Lanzarote's economic leadership in the Canary Islands is accompanied by greater job stability. From the Cabildo, we have made an effort to guarantee the hiring of these people, covering their salary expenses for six months. We hope that this job opportunity will serve as a way to access the stable labor market,” he said.

For his part, the Minister of Employment, Jesús Machín, thanked the city councils for their collaboration and the positive impact of the program. “We want to thank the municipalities for their collaborative spirit with this initiative, which not only allows us to give employment to unemployed people, but also contributes to the maintenance and environmental conservation of the island.”

As a novelty in this edition, the Lanzarote residents hired have access to training in digital skills, languages and personal skills, thus facilitating their future job placement. “We not only want to offer a temporary job opportunity, but also provide workers with tools that allow them to improve their long-term employability,” Betancort highlighted, who also congratulated the technical team of the Employment Area for the efficient work they do.
