The shipping company Baleària has taken effective control of the assets of Armas Trasmediterránea in the Canary Islands perimeter, which includes inter-island routes and the archipelago's connections to the mainland, in an operation where the resulting group will have 4,500 employees and more than fifty ships.

As the company reported this Monday in a statement, the combined traffic volume will exceed eight million passengers, 11 million linear meters of cargo, and a turnover of over 1 billion euros.

Baleària has announced that it will invest 45 million euros in the next three years in the Canary Islands with the aim of improving the quality, digitalization, and comfort of the acquired fleet.

It has also explained that it will retain all incorporated staff and will work in close collaboration with institutions, port authorities, and all social and economic agents of the islands.

"The new Baleària is prepared to guarantee the efficiency of the entire national maritime transport network in all its territories," stated the company's president, Adolfo Utor, who highlighted that "we are talking about essential infrastructure for territorial cohesion with the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands archipelagos, and with the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, in addition to a key bridge for political and commercial relations with Morocco and Algeria."

Within the framework of the operation, Baleària has created the brand Baleària Canarias, under which it will operate in the archipelago, although during a transitional period it will coexist with that of Armas Trasmediterránea.

The acquisition agreement was announced in August and the overall operation has been structured in the geographical perimeters of the Canary Islands, already executed, and those of the Strait and Alboran, for which formalities related to both areas are pending formalization.
