The Port Authority of Las Palmas, on which the port of Arrecife depends, has decided to transfer free of charge to the Arrecife City Council three heritage plots of sidewalks and roads in the area of Naos Avenue and the Fishing Port, for a value of 3,733,622.6 euros.
These are lands considered unnecessary for port uses and purposes that are considered heritage assets of the Port Authority. The objective is for them to be fully integrated into the public service of the city's roads.
A part of these heritage spaces are located in the areas of Olof Palme Avenue, the Local Police Station and Naos Avenue, as well as in other areas near the Fishing Port.
These areas have been part of the urban road network and public spaces of Arrecife, its basic mobility structure, for years.
However, until now they maintained their legal status as heritage property of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, giving rise to problems of dysfunctionality and management for their maintenance and conservation, police regime, road safety and citizen civil protection, since the reality and purpose of their daily use does not correspond to the legal nature and ownership of the assets.
