The number of companies in insolvency proceedings falls by 32.7% in the Canary Islands in the second quarter

Balearic Islands, Madrid and the Archipelago register the largest decreases in insolvency proceedings in the country

Bankruptcy filings in the Canary Islands fall by 32.7%

The number of companies that registered insolvency proceedings in the second quarter of the year in Spain rose to 1,073, a 20.2% less than between April and June 2022, according to data provided this Monday by the Association of Registrars, which puts the decrease registered in the Canary Islands at 32.7%.

The proceedings maintain their downward trend, since in the first quarter, also according to data from the Association of Registrars, the number of companies in proceedings decreased by 18.9% from the same period of the previous year.

However, in their note, the Registrars highlight that in the last twelve months, between July 2022 and June 2023, 4,787 companies declared themselves in proceedings, 1.7% more than in the accumulated of the previous year. 

Breaking down the data by autonomous communities, between April and June the proceedings plummeted in the Balearic Islands, where they fell by 72.3%; Madrid, with a decrease of 40.8%; Canary Islands, 32.7%, and Cantabria and the Basque Country, both with cuts of 30.8%. 

At the other end of the table, the regions where the number of companies in proceedings grew the most were Extremadura (120.0%); Navarra (75.0%); Murcia (60.0%), and Asturias (45.5%).
