The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has ordered the confinement on all farms of poultry raised outdoors for the prevention and control of avian influenza contagion.
Last Monday, the Ministry issued an order to confine poultry in 1,199 municipalities located in areas of special risk, one in the Canary Islands, Pájara, due to its condition as an area for the passage and concentration of migratory birds.
Starting this Thursday, through a new order published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the Government has established the confinement of outdoor poultry farms under any existing breeding methods, including organic farms and those for self-consumption or those that produce eggs or meat for direct sale to the final consumer.
In this way, the outdoor breeding and keeping of poultry and other captive birds is prohibited, although when it is not possible, authorities may authorize the outdoor keeping of poultry under a series of conditions.
