The general manager of the Fariones Group, Bienvenido Saavedra, has been awarded the Medal for Tourist Excellence of the Canary Islands 2011, awarded by the regional Executive, in the category of professional activities carried out in institutions, establishments or companies.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente Armas, presided this Tuesday over the Canary Tourism Council held on the Island of Tenerife, in which the winners were designated in the different modalities of the Medals for Tourist Excellence of the Canary Islands 2011.
The general manager of the Fariones group, Bienvenido Saavedra Ramón, began his working life in 1970 as a bellboy at the Hotel Los Fariones. He then completed internships in each of the departments and, in the following years, held different positions such as telephone operator, assistant concierge, receptionist and head of reception. In 2000 he was appointed general manager of the Fariones Group, a position he currently holds.
In addition to Bienvenido Saavedra, the Lopesan group has been awarded in the category of business activities, developed in the tourism sector of accommodation, restaurants, intermediation, leisure, information or promotion; and the Fuerteventura airport, in the category of Initiatives related to innovation and renovation that have resulted in the qualitative improvement of the tourist image of the Canary Islands, the optimization of the commercialization of tourism products or the rehabilitation of urban environments of municipalities, facilities and tourist or leisure infrastructures.
The jury of the Medals for Tourist Excellence is made up of the members that constitute the Canary Tourism Council, chaired by Ricardo Fernández de la Puente Armas, and composed of senior officials from the Vice-Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, the president of each Cabildo or councilor in whom he delegates, a representative of the most representative association of the Canary municipalities, four representatives of the business associations of the hotel and non-hotel sector with the greatest presence in the Canary Islands, a representative of the restaurant, cafeteria and bar sector, of the business associations of the travel agencies sector, of the business associations of the leisure sector, of the Professional Association of Graduates and Technicians of Companies and Tourism Activity of the Canary Islands, professional associations of tourist guides, of directors of tourist establishments, of the Centers of Tourist Initiatives, of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation, representative of the workers, and four members.
The distinctions will be granted by Decree of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, coinciding with World Tourism Day, in accordance with the proposal of the Canary Tourism Council submitted by the councilor responsible for tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands
