The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands has granted more than 900,000 euros to livestock farms in the Canary Islands to reinforce support for the dairy production of goat and sheep of local origin, in addition to the dairy industry and artisanal cheese factories, corresponding to the second semester of 2022.
A total of 180 farmers from the islands can now have these aids, either for the dairy production of goat and sheep of local origin, or for the dairy industry and artisanal cheese factories.
The subsidies granted by the Autonomous Executive are paid directly to the beneficiary for the quantities of milk acquired from farmers or produced by them, and used in the elaboration of the products, in the period between July 1 and December 31, 2022.
With these aids, which are part of the Community Support Program for Agricultural Production in the Canary Islands (POSEI-Agricultural), the regional government promotes the promotion of local production in the livestock sectors, especially in goat and sheep, which are going through a crisis derived from inflation, which has an impact on an increase in the costs of raw materials and drought.
