The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has unfolded with great anticipation, attended by Canary Island companies in the sector thanks to the support of Canary Islands Film and Proexca, in their support for the internationalization of the archipelago's companies in strategic sectors.
Within this framework, they have participated in the Marché du Film, an essential event for producers, distributors, sales agents, publicists, film festival organizers, artistic representatives, television broadcasters, and film technical service providers from around the world.
Canary Productions, Ecija Legal & Advisory Canarias SL, E-media Canary Projects SL, and Seven Islands Film are attending with the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster thanks to the sectorial plan developed with Proexca.
The objective of these companies is threefold, as pointed out by the Cluster. On one hand, they are producers who want to co-produce, promote, and sell and find financing, also companies that seek to expand their network of contacts; and lastly, they are professionals who want to stay up-to-date with the news and latest developments in the sector.
Alongside these companies, others that are part of the strong and growing Canary Islands audiovisual ecosystem have participated and will do so independently. Furthermore, during the festival, the Canary film by the production company El Viaje Films, which has benefited from the minority co-production fund of Cultura, premiered and, thanks to participating in the San Sebastián International Film Festival with Proexca, was able to close important meetings there for the promotion of the film.
The Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival is recognized as the most significant professional meeting of the film industry globally, attracting professionals from all areas of cinema and encompassing all forms and genres in all stages, from the sale of projects in development to finished feature films.
The main objective is to facilitate the purchase, sale, financing, distribution, and co-production of films. Additionally, it offers a wide variety of specialized programs aimed at industry sectors, including co-production, documentaries, animation, genre cinema, XR, and innovation.
The Marché du Film 2024 was a historic edition that saw the participation of more than 15,000 attendees from 140 countries, surpassing the previous year's record of 14,000 participants.
The 2024 edition stood out for a series of expanded events and programs, including more than 1,500 screenings and with more than 500 exhibitors. Participants had access to more than 250 industry events, including 80 conferences that addressed the latest trends and strategies in cinema.
