The Canary Islands are one of the Spanish regions where the most complaints from European tourists are received regarding the quality of car rental services, according to the Director of Consumer Affairs of the European Commission, Agnes Pantelouri, who said that "the data is significant, but not to be alarmed".

Pantelouri, who inaugurated the IV Conference of 'Consumer Europe' this Tuesday, which this time is about the rental and sale of vehicles, told ACN Press that "The Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands are the islands that have the most capacity for car rental in Spain, which explains why they may have more complaints about it."

She also stated that "some problems" have been detected in this regard. She comments that when a tourist comes to the Islands and rents a car, the prior information they have received in their country of origin is somewhat deficient, since "they may be offered more things than the rental agreement later says."

"We intend to inform the sector more and that we know each other better among all countries, and all municipal consumer offices in the Canary Islands - she commented - so that when a tourist arrives with a problem, we can solve it as quickly as possible by mediating between the company and the consumer, in such a way that we can continue to have quality tourism."

These conferences are held by the European Consumer Center in Spain, which has invited each of the European consumer centers in the rest of the EU countries, the Government of the Canary Islands and the National Consumer Institute of Spain to "analyze the problems that may exist in vehicle rental and in the visit of so many tourists as the Canary Islands has."
