All-inclusive skyrockets and is now chosen by 41% of tourists visiting Lanzarote

The "all inclusive" option, which had already doubled in Lanzarote in the last seven years, shot up again in the third quarter of 2015. During that period, 41.3 percent of tourists who visited the island opted for this modality, compared to 34.8 percent recorded in the same period of 2014. This is reflected in the Tourist Survey published by the Data Center of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, which collects data since 2006.

In that year, only 14.8 percent of tourists opted for "all inclusive". It was from the year 2009 when it began to grow more strongly, becoming the most chosen option by those who visit the island. However, then it was only 27 percent, but the figure has continued to grow and, in this latest published survey, all inclusive clearly prevails over any other option.

Far away is the second most chosen, flight and accommodation, for which 27.8 percent of tourists opted, while the half-board regime continues to fall and now stands at 13.6 percent. Only 6.9 percent of tourists arrived with the flight only, 5.3 percent with bed and breakfast and 3.2 percent with full board.

Depending on the country of origin, those who opt for all inclusive the most are still the Germans. 46.8 percent of tourists who came from that country opted for this modality, while 27 percent of Germans arrived with half board contracted. They are followed by tourists from the United Kingdom (43.5 percent contracted all inclusive) and Spaniards, with 40.9 percent.

Half of the tourists fly on low cost

Regarding flights, more than half of the tourists arriving in Lanzarote (specifically 51.5 percent) during the third quarter of 2015 flew on low-cost companies, which is a figure four points higher than that recorded in the Canary Islands as a whole. According to the survey, low cost is mainly used by Spaniards and Britons.

In this case, it should be noted that the figure has decreased slightly compared to the previous year, since in the third quarter of 2014, 55.3 percent of tourists arrived in Lanzarote on low-cost companies, being the highest percentage recorded to date.

Regarding the type of accommodation, 56 percent of tourists stayed in hotel establishments and 38 percent did so in extra-hotel accommodation. The majority had an average stay on the island of 9.81 nights, compared to the average of 10.16 recorded in the Canary Islands as a whole.

The tourists who stay the most days on the island are the Germans (11.7 nights), those from the Nordic countries (11.1), the United Kingdom (10.3) and the Netherlands (10.1). At the bottom are the national tourists, with an average stay of 7.8 nights.
