Registrations fall 50% in August compared to last year in the province of Las Palmas

The drop is particularly pronounced among vehicle rental businesses and business fleets

Registrations of passenger cars and SUVs fell by 49.9% in Las Palmas province in August compared to the same month last year, according to data published by the employers' association. 

The decrease was particularly pronounced among vehicle rental businesses, which registered nearly 1,000 fewer vehicles than last year, specifically 241 passenger cars, representing a decrease of 78.8%

Also among companies, there has been much less appetite for expanding their vehicle fleet. The drop in the business world of the province has been 58.5%, so they only registered 356 vehicles. 

Among individuals, it also decreased, but minimally, 3.8% fewer passenger cars were registered, totaling 841 units. 

Nationally, the passenger car market suffers a drop of 6.5% and a total of 52,322 units. The eighth month is always marked by the summer vacation period, which conditions sales downwards.

However, this August has obtained a worse figure than the previous year, slowing down annual growth, which with 671,551 new registrations is only 4.5% higher than in 2023. Likewise, the market is still 30% smaller than before the pandemic.
