The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Monday the call for subsidies for operating expenses in livestock farms corresponding to the year 2025, with an initial allocation of 50,000 euros.

This line of aid, included in the Strategic Plan of Subsidies of the Cabildo, seeks to improve the profitability of the sector and alleviate the extra cost borne by the livestock farmers of the islands, derived from factors such as double insularity, the scarcity of rainfall and the high price of supplies.

The president and councilor of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, pointed out that "these aids, which we consolidate for the third year in a row, aim to cover the cost overruns of the sector and contribute to the maintenance of an activity that is part of the environmental and cultural value of our islands".

Betancort stressed that this call responds to the commitment of the Island Institution with the professionals of the sector, offering a useful tool to alleviate the most urgent and necessary expenses of the farms, from livestock feed to water transport or veterinary services.

The call, which will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, will allow subsidizing up to 70% of the cost of the activity, with a maximum of 3,500 euros per farm and a reference amount of 150 euros per Livestock Unit (LU). Among the eligible expenses are the purchase of food for livestock, water transport, fuel, electricity, veterinary services, repair of milking parlors and hiring of personnel, among others.

The owners of farms registered in the Register of Livestock Farms of the Canary Islands (REGA) and with an updated census in 2025, which have a minimum of 5 LU, 1 LU in the case of rabbit and poultry farms, may apply for these aids. The deadline for submitting applications will be 15 business days from the day following its official publication.
