In the month of April, the port of Arrecife has managed to improve its ship and merchandise traffic figures compared to the previous month, while passenger traffic has remained stable, according to a report from the Port Authority of Las Palmas collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
Specifically, in the fourth month of the year, 162 ships arrived in Lanzarote, compared to 158 in March, with 3,659,495 tons, of which 122 were merchant ships and 40 were fishing vessels.
In addition, 153,890 tons of merchandise were transported, 21,120 more than the previous month. The bulk of the total, 101,879, corresponded to general merchandise, 46,712 to liquid bulk and 5,300 to solid bulk. It should be noted that 123,831 tons were unloaded, 28,708 were loaded and 1,352 tons were counted in transit in April at the Port of Arrecife.
On the other hand, after months of increase, maritime passenger traffic in the port of Arrecife has experienced a decrease in the month of April, with 43,060 travelers, 12 less than in March, despite including the Easter holiday period.
Of the total, 10,355 were conventional passengers, 32,705 came from tourist cruises and 4,998 were automobiles.
Only merchandise manages to recover after the pandemic
Merchandise traffic has been the only sector that has managed to exceed, by far, the figures prior to the coronavirus, since in 2019 137,440 tons were transported, 11.97% less than in 2022.
For its part, the number of passengers and ships continue to mark data very far from the pre-pandemic period, when the data was practically doubled in some areas.
Without going any further, passenger traffic marked 91,594 travelers in 2019, 53% more, while ship traffic stood at 252, an increase of 35.7% compared to this year.
In any case, it should be noted that, in the case of passengers, from the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP) they expect that the total recovery of the sector will arrive with the winter campaign, although they do not rule out reaching figures close to those of 2019 in summer, with 90% of the fleet operating in Lanzarote.
