Lanzarote's hotels and apartments took in more than 682 million euros in 2018 despite falling occupancy

Tourist accommodations registered a decrease of 0.6% in their profits compared to 2017, while occupancy fell by 3.2%.

Lanzarote's hotels and apartments grossed more than 682 million euros in 2018 despite the fall in occupancy

Hotels and apartments in Lanzarote took in a total of 682,682,374 euros during 2018 despite a 3.2% drop in occupancy. However, profits also decreased, although in this case only by 0.6%, specifically 4,395,335 euros, since in 2017 the amount collected by tourist accommodations on the island was 687,077,709.

Regarding occupancy, the average occupancy per place was 76.7% during 2018, while the previous year it was 79.9%. There were decreases in all months, except for May and October where it increased and September where it remained the same. However, the months with the highest occupancy were July and August, with 87.3 and 87 respectively. The month with the largest decrease was December, where a decrease of 7.9% was recorded with an occupancy of 66.3%.

In the case of occupancy per room/apartment, the annual average in 2018 was 82% compared to 85.2% the previous year, so in this case there is also a decrease of 3.2%.

 

An average price of accommodation of 78.61 euros, 2.9% more 


Regarding the average price of tourist accommodation, it increased by 2.9% during 2018, being 78.61 euros. In the case of hotels, the increase was only 0.7%, going from 88.94 to 89.59 euros the average rate, but in the case of apartments it grew by 6.7%, going from 56.88 to 60.70 euros.

Finally, the data collected by the Cabildo also reflects that the creation of employment in tourist establishments increased, specifically by 4.3%, going from 117,350 jobs created in 2017 to 122,415 in 2018.
