Lanzarote Airport closed 2015 breaking its historical record of passengers

Lanzarote Airport closed 2015 breaking its own record in passenger traffic. In total, 6,124,321 people passed through the airport, which represents an increase of 4.1% compared to the previous year. Along with the Guacimeta aerodrome, Gran Canaria (with 10,627,182 passengers and an increase of 3%) and Fuerteventura (with 5,026,902 passengers and an increase of 5.5%) also achieved the best records in their history.

In total, the eight Canary Island airports registered 35,864,781 passengers during 2015, which represents an increase of 1,045,554 more travelers compared to 2014 (+3%). This figure, the best in history also in the sum of all the islands, has placed the airports of Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh place, respectively, in terms of annual passenger volume of the Aena network airports in Spain.

Of the total number of passengers, 23,519,334 correspond to international traffic, which reflects an increase of 2.1%. Of these, 21,706,588 were travelers from the European Union and 1,812,746 from countries that do not belong to the EU. A total of 11,922,596 passengers were from domestic flights, 5.5% more than in 2014.

 

New record also in December


During the past month, the Canary Island airports registered a total of 3,180,668, 7% more than in December 2014, of which 2,129,695 were from international flights, 6.6% more, and 1,001,564 from national flights, 7% more.

The airports that served the highest number of travelers in December were Gran Canaria, with 1,050,865 (+8%); Tenerife South, with 828,897 (+4.4%) and Lanzarote, with 473,504 (+8.7%). Fuerteventura registered 398,909 passengers (+9.4%); Tenerife North, 329,233 (+6.8%); La Palma, 84,976 (+4.1%); El Hierro, 11,605 (-7.1%), and La Gomera, 2,679, with the largest percentage increase (+16.6%).

It should be noted that the airports of Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have reached the highest number of passenger traffic in a month of December.

Regarding the number of operations, 29,136 were carried out, 2.3% more than in the same period of the previous year. Regarding cargo traffic, more than 3,320 tons were transported, which is 1.2% less than in 2014.
