Lanzarote Airport broke records in 2014, with almost 6 million travelers

Guacimeta Airport welcomed 5,883,039 passengers in 2014, representing a 10.3% increase in travelers compared to 2013. This is according to the latest AENA statistics, which indicate that with these data, Lanzarote Airport has "broken a historical record."

This annual figure of travelers places Guacimeta as the ninth airport with the highest volume of travelers in Spain, according to the public entity. Of those almost six million travelers who passed through the Lanzarote airport, nearly 4.2 million did so on international flights, representing a 12.8% increase in this traffic compared to 2013.

These data place Lanzarote as the third busiest airport in the archipelago in 2014, only behind Gran Canaria and Tenerife South. Regarding the past month of December 2014, Guacimeta received nearly 436,000 travelers, 1.8% less than in December 2013.

AENA's annual statistics on air traffic in the Canary Islands reflect a 6.9% increase in the number of travelers in the islands compared to 2013. In total, the Canary Islands airports received 34.8 million passengers in 2014, of which just over 23 million came from international flights, 9% more than in 2013. Gran Canaria Airport, with 10.3 million passengers, remains the one that welcomes the most travelers. It is followed by Tenerife South with 9.2 million, and Lanzarote is in third place. Among these data, the increase in passengers at La Gomera Airport stands out, which with almost 29,000 passengers, increased its traffic by 18.2% compared to 2013. The number of flights in the archipelago also increased, by 8.8%, with 325,212 flights.
