The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is integrated for the first time in the Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands (CES), a consultative body regulated by Law 1/1992 of the Economic and Social Council. This independent body, with its own legal personality, aims to guarantee the participation of social and economic agents in the design of the archipelago's economic, social and labor policy.
The CES is composed of representatives of the Chambers of Commerce, business confederations, unions, consumer and user associations, as well as experts of recognized prestige, totaling 18 members.
In 2022, for the first time, the participation of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as the Chamber of Fuerteventura, was recognized in this advisory body. Until March 2025, the representation of the Chambers of the province of Las Palmas has been held by the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria. Starting this month, said representation will be assumed by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa for the next eight months, after which it will cede the turn to the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, will assume the representation in the CES as the owner, while the vice president of the Chamber, Carmen Martinón, will serve as alternate.
A milestone for the business community of Lanzarote
Since its constitution, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has worked actively to be part of the main business discussion and decision-making bodies, progressively achieving its objectives. The incorporation to the Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands is a significant milestone, as is its participation in the Board of Directors of the Port Authority.
Through these forums, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa seeks to transfer the voice of the local business community to the spaces where key decisions are made for the economic development of the island.
José Valle has highlighted the importance of this incorporation: "It is a fundamental step for the voice of the companies of Lanzarote and La Graciosa to have an active role in the decisions that affect the economic and social development of the archipelago. We will continue working to defend the interests of the business fabric of our island in the forums where key decisions are made."
