Lanzarote monopolized this Wednesday "maximum prominence as the epicenter of safe tourist experiences worldwide" during the development of FiturTechY, the Innovation, Technology and Sustainability Forum organized by the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur), in collaboration with the Hotel Technological Institute (ITH).
The CEO of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), Héctor Fernández, and the CTO of Alastria, Jesús Ruiz, presented during the technology and destination section ‘techYdestino’ of this important event that is held parallel to the development of Fitur, the results of the "successful" pilot test of the ‘Lanzarote Covid Safe’ project held from May 14 to 18 with the participation of relevant international figures from science, tourism and technological research.
“With this project, the island has positioned itself at the forefront as a pioneering safe destination internationally and becomes a reference on the change of model in tourist trips that from now on will have to ensure much more, without a doubt, for sustainability,” stressed the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.
Pilot test
The ‘Lanzarote Covid Safe’ project has been promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote with the participation of King's College London, Alastria, IN2 and Continuam; and has also had the collaboration of Iberia Express, Hotel Meliá Salinas, Biolab Laboratories, the car rental company Cicar, SEUR and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Lanzarote Council.
More than sixty national and international tourists participated in the aforementioned pilot test held with the aim of testing a travel model with measures that guarantee the safety of travelers and residents, through the implementation of safe, simple and effective Covid-19 control and monitoring protocols. In total, 380 non-invasive PCR-Queens were performed, both on the group of tourists and on the staff who assisted them in accommodation, transportation, hospitality or leisure.
