The Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands will receive in the coming days an additional allocation of 13 million euros to expand the budget initially planned for the execution of incentive programs linked to electric mobility, within the framework of the MOVES III Program.

Specifically, the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) has officially informed the regional department of the approval of the budget increase requested for the MOVES III program, amounting to 13,870,184.24 euros.

This amount is added in full to the 15.8 million euros initially allocated in the call for subsidies published by this Ministry on July 14, 2021, which means that the Canary Islands will have more than 29 million euros to allocate to incentives, in the form of subsidies, for the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging points.

The Minister of Ecological Transition, José Antonio Valbuena, highlights that with this budget expansion, "the allocation with which we initially had is practically doubled, something that has been possible thanks to the good reception that this program is having and that has made it necessary to expand the credit to reach many more people on the islands."

In addition, Valbuena recalls that "these programs are essential to continue advancing in the transition towards new, more efficient and sustainable transport models aligned with the decarbonization objective that we have set for 2040 to fight against climate change" and highlighted the "speed" with which the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the IDAE have responded to the request for increased funds for the Canary Islands transferred by the Ministry he chairs.

Two lines of subsidies

The MOVES III Plan in the Canary Islands includes two lines of subsidies, a program aimed at the acquisition of plug-in electric and fuel cell vehicles and another for the implementation of charging infrastructures for electric vehicles, which shared 50% of the amount initially approved for the call.

Due to the high number of applications received under the second program, more than 70% of the recently approved expansion will be reserved for the financing of charging infrastructures.

The beneficiaries of these aids are individuals of legal age and those who carry out economic activities, homeowners associations, local entities and the institutional public sector, or legal entities and other entities whose NIF begins with the letters A to G or by J, R or W. The Conservation Entities of Polygons or Agricultural Transformation Societies whose NIF begins with V will also be eligible.

Applications to benefit from MOVESIII can be submitted until December 31, 2023, through the electronic headquarters of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, completing the model, which can also be submitted in paper format and signed for registration.
