The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Transport and Mobility, headed by María Fernández, has approved a new call for aid for the preparation, updating and implementation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) for municipalities in the Canary Islands with up to one hundred thousand inhabitants. In total, a total of 1,709,440.46 euros will be distributed.
This call, published today in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), aims to promote the improvement of sustainable urban mobility in the Islands through two lines of subsidy, a first for the drafting of projects and another for the execution of actions of the SUMP that were already drafted by the municipalities in previous years.
The aid destined to Line 1, for the elaboration or, if applicable, updating of the SUMP, amounts to 209,440.46 euros, providing the municipalities with a key tool to guarantee the reduction of the carbon footprint in the Archipelago.
The amounts destined to Line 2, for the implementation of the SUMP in municipalities that already have projects in force, amount to 1,500,000 euros.
The deadline for submitting applications will be until April 30, 2025. Applications must be submitted exclusively by electronic means through the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility.
Commitment to more efficient mobility
The General Directorate of Transport and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands allocates a total of 3,050,000 euros to the implementation of the SUMP in the Islands. Of this amount, 1,709,440.46 euros correspond to the current call, while the rest is already being executed in various projects in several municipal districts of the Canary Islands.
In the previous call, the General Directorate has granted support to a total of 10 municipalities within the framework of Line 1, among which are Agaete, Arona, Buenavista del Norte, Haría, Teror and Tuineje. In addition, the updating of the SUMP in Arucas, Los Llanos de Aridane, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and San Miguel de Abona has been facilitated.
As for Line 2, a total of 20 municipalities received this subsidy, destined to implement key initiatives to improve mobility, accessibility and promote a more sustainable infrastructure. The benefited municipalities were Alajeró, Barlovento, Betancuria, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Fasnia, Frontera, Gáldar, Granadilla de Abona, Hermigua, Ingenio, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Los Silos, Puerto del Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, Tegueste, Tías, Valleseco and Valverde.
