The Governing Council has agreed this week to declare reasons of economic conjuncture to extend aid to the artisanal fishing fleet of the islands to compensate for the increase in the costs of inputs as a result of the war in Russia and Ukraine, worth one million euros.
Another million euros will be allocated to the repair of the fishing dock of San Miguel de Tajao, in Tenerife, after the damage caused by the last storm.
Both items total 2,032,818 euros, which will be financed by the Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA) 2021-2027.
As stated in a report by the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, the inflation derived from the war conflict has caused income losses for fishermen.
For this reason, the Canarian Executive, in line with the support line approved last year, has authorized the increase in spending up to 1,009,818 euros to grant aid aimed at preserving the competitiveness and viability of coastal fishing activity in a context that makes it difficult to market its products.
On the other hand, the budget application 'Action in the port of San Miguel de Tajao' will be increased to a total amount of 1,023,000 euros to undertake the adaptation actions of this fishing enclave in the south of Tenerife, which was greatly affected by the last storm.
