The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emigration, has allocated, this year, 170,398 euros to emergency aid of a humanitarian nature to Canary Islanders residing in Argentina, Cuba and Venezuela.
The economic situation of these countries, as explained by its general director, José Téllez, "prevents many Canary Islanders from having a dignified life due to the inflationary processes suffered by these countries, and the healthcare cost and specialized treatments, as well as the price of basic necessities."
To try, to some extent, to alleviate this situation, in Cuba, aid has been granted for a total amount of 15,000 euros, which is broken down into 75 aids of 200 euros for people over 80 years of age; and 350 aids of 200 euros, for a total amount of 70,000 euros, of a general nature. The latter are part of the Extraordinary Aid Plan for Canary Islanders in Cuba.
Likewise, in Venezuela, 51 aids have been granted for an amount of 75,398 euros, which are destined for basic necessities or to provide resources for surgical intervention processes.
For its part, in Argentina, a monthly delivery of food boxes is made between May and December to 30 Canary Islanders residing there due to the inability to cover their basic needs due to inflation. The amount of this contribution amounts to 10,000 euros.
