Aena reopens T2 of Lanzarote airport next week

It has been closed for more than a year due to the reduction of flights due to the pandemic and during this time improvement and remodeling works have been carried out

Lanzarote Airport Terminal 2

Aena will put Terminal 2 of the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport back into service next Tuesday, July 6, "to adapt its facilities to the current operational situation", due to the increase that is already occurring in the arrival of flights.

The T2 of the Lanzarote airport, usually used for inter-island flights, had been closed since June 2020 due to the pandemic, and during this time it has been the subject of improvement and remodeling works.

The airport's activity in the last year has been concentrated in T1. Starting next Tuesday, the infrastructure recovers the operation prior to the pandemic, so that operations between the islands return to T2, while national and international operations will continue to be carried out in T1.

Regarding the works carried out, Aena points out that they were already planned "before the health emergency occurred", and "they have been mainly oriented to optimize the surface of the terminal". The actions have consisted, among others, in a new distribution of spaces, which it says "has resulted in a larger and brighter boarding area in which the cafeteria is now located", and the execution of new pavement and signage in the accesses.

In addition, new counters have been installed at the boarding gates, a new teleindicator and new flight information monitors.

Both in T2 and T1, various anti-covid elements have been installed since the pandemic began -72 protective screens, 235 contactless taps and 51 gel dispensers - which, together with other actions in the field of disease prevention, have earned the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport the certification of the Airport Health Accreditation program of the International Council of Airports (ACI). This program - which has accredited 19 Spanish airports, including all those in the Canary Islands - evaluates compliance with the health measures recommended by ACI, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), EASA, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Coinciding with the reopening of T2 of the César ManriqueLanzarote Airport, Aena recalls that, according to Royal Decree-Law 26/2020, access to the terminals must be made through the signposted accesses and only employees and passengers with a valid ticket or boarding pass and companions of travelers who require special assistance, minors or with duly justified cause are allowed to enter.
