The airport manager, Aena, has launched the car rental tender, one of the largest in the world, with more than 21,500 spaces and an estimated business volume of 10,000 million euros.
There are currently 11 car rental service offices operating at the César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote.
The tender proposes a flexible strategy adapted to the different profiles of car rental clients operating in the airports of the Aena network.
The closed lots of spaces are eliminated and companies can select the number of spaces desired, with rents adapted to the profiles of the operators. It establishes a fixed rent that entitles a sufficient number of spaces that makes the business viable and a fixed rent per space for those clients who are committed to a larger implementation.
Renovation in 38 airports
The new tender will mean the renovation of the service in 38 airports compared to the current 34, with the incorporation of the airports of Melilla, Badajoz, Vitoria and Logroño-Agoncillo. The spaces offered will be more than 21,500 and the licenses available will increase from the current 170 to 218 in the new tender. The new contracts will have a duration of between 5 and 7 years.
In addition, contracts are included to develop the car rental activity without a driver in the corporate aviation terminals of the main airports (Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga-Costa del Sol).
Currently Aena has contracts signed with 16 operators in 34 airports, which will be valid until October 31, 2024.
Each year, 4.6 million vehicles without a driver are rented at the airports of the Aena network in Spain. This line of business is the third in volume of commercial revenue for Aena (behind Duty Free and Restaurants), and generates sales of around 1,200 million euros each year for the operators.
Aena's objective is to maximize the value of this line of business and attract the largest possible number of operators with the aim of improving the quality offered to the passenger. To this end, it is committed to the digitization of the service and the implementation of the latest technologies in the sector.
