CICAR faces FITUR 2018 with the aim of reinforcing its leadership

CICAR faces 2018 with the aim of reinforcing its leadership in the car rental sector in the Canary Islands. With this predisposition, CICAR attends the International Tourism Fair of Madrid, FITUR, after the excellent results obtained last year. FITUR 2018 will last until this Sunday.

As has been usual in the last editions of this Fair, various officials in the field of tourism and mayors of tourist municipalities of the Canary Islands approached the CICAR stand to share impressions on the new year that is presented to Canarian companies in the field of tourism. Among them were the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Saray Rodríguez, and the Minister of Finance of said Corporation, Luis Celestino Arráez. Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of CICAR, spoke with all of them, agreeing that the current year is at least as good as the previous one.

Like other public and private tourism actors in the Islands, CICAR hopes that the present 2018 will be as benign as the previous year. In fact, the past was a good year for the car rental sector in Spain, registering a growth of close to 10%.

The tourist situation in the country also benefits the Canary Islands. Lanzarote, the island from which the Cabrera Medina business group, to which CICAR belongs, originates, closed 2017 with more than three million visitors, while the Canary Islands as a whole registered some 16 million tourists. The rent a car segment also grows hand in hand with tourism, to the point that the sector will progress more in coastal areas and island destinations. And this is because travelers are increasingly opting for the comfort and freedom that a rental car offers compared to other mobility options.

CICAR is a car rental company without a driver belonging to the Cabrera Medina Group. This business group, with a family structure, offers services in all the Canary Islands, and is present in all airports, ports, tourist areas and strategic points of the Canary archipelago. Its logo is a creation of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique. It has more than 12,000 rental cars, more than 80 points of sale for both rent a car and vehicle sales, and directly employs almost 1,500 people.

Its car rental division is the most important in all of the Canary Islands, and it is also the only Lanzarote firm with a presence on all seven islands. These circumstances, together with the high quality of its service, have made it worthy of numerous awards, among which the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands stands out, obtained by the Cabrera Medina Group in 2014. This decoration is awarded by the Autonomous Government as recognition to individuals or legal entities that carry out their daily work or their existence for the benefit of Canarian society. Last year it commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation.
