Bodegas La Grieta Dives into the Atlantic

It has submerged 500 bottles of its Vendimia Nocturna red wine in the Canary Islands Underwater Winery, where they will age "in unique conditions"...

Bodegas La Grieta submerged 500 bottles of its Vendimia Nocturna red wine in the Atlantic Ocean last week. Specifically, it did so in the Canary Islands Underwater Winery, located in the waters of Tenerife, at a depth of 18 meters. "This location has unique conditions of light, humidity, temperature, pressure and gravity to carry out the aging process of quality wines," they point out from La Grieta.

For a few months, these red wines from Bodegas La Grieta "will share a home with the underwater flora and fauna in order to achieve a spectacular and exclusive result," they explain. These wines "will breathe the oxygen dissolved in the ocean water as if they were a fish, 18 meters deep and with a pressure of 2.8 bars," they add. In addition, the bottles have been placed with a special orientation so that the water always travels along them according to the marine currents.

The aforementioned references have a label designed for the occasion and a special stopper so that micro-oxygenation can be carried out through it.

In this way, Bodegas La Grieta becomes the first winery in Lanzarote to be part of the Canary Islands Underwater Winery, although the winery located in Punta Mujeres had already carried out this practice, 3 years ago, in the waters of the town itself located north of Lanzarote.
