The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has reported this Wednesday two new cases of monkeypox confirmed in people residing in Tenerife, whose samples had been sent this Tuesday to the National Center for Microbiology.
These new positives mean that there are a total of four confirmed cases in the Canary Islands, since the beginning of the declaration of the health alert, one in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife.
Likewise, this Wednesday the Coordinating Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health has been notified of three new cases of monkeypox for study. These are men who are evolving favorably and whose samples will be sent throughout the day for study to the National Center for Microbiology. In addition, the Ministry of Health points out that two of the cases have been classified as probable because they meet the clinical and epidemiological criteria, while the third is a suspected case because it only presents clinical criteria.
Therefore, the cases confirmed and notified in the Canary Islands since the beginning of the alert and until this Wednesday, all men and with favorable evolution are four confirmed cases, one in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife; four probable cases pending confirmation and three suspected cases pending confirmation.
The protocol of the Ministry of Health classifies cases between probable and suspected depending on whether the patient meets clinical criteria and epidemiological criteria (probable cases) or if he only presents clinical criteria and in that case it is considered a suspected case.
