The President of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, admitted this Wednesday that in La Palma there is a mixture of "anguish and pain" since the volcanic eruption began in Cumbre Vieja, given the uncertainty of knowing what will happen to the homes and properties or those who already know that they have lost them.

In a press conference to report on the agreements of the Pevolca steering committee, he commented that these days he has seen "people crying" and "there is no consolation" because the eruption has not ended and it is not even known if the lava will reach the sea and continue to devastate, so he insisted on mobilizing all possible public aid. "We will do everything we can," he said.

Torres has warned that although the lava flows "advance slowly", they continue their "inexorable path" and "nothing can be done, no barricades, no ditches, no parapets, it is impossible no matter how much goodwill there is."

He expressed his desire that "hopefully it will end soon", valuing that there is no personal damage, that the airport remains open and the island is connected and safe, although there is a restricted area that must be respected because a police officer cannot be placed at all points of the perimeter either.

Torres has once again remarked that the damage on the island will be greater than 400 million and that is why the Canary Islands will take advantage of the EU solidarity funds, given that La Palma will need a great "economic boost" because the situation "will not be resolved in months" and there is great economic and social damage.

"There is no consolation, it is very hard, this black monster advances unstoppably, it is impossible to put oneself in its place," he detailed.

The Canarian president has confirmed that President Pedro Sánchez will return to the island this Thursday after speaking before the UN General Assembly and will coincide with the King and Queen of Spain.
