The Ministry of Finance and Relations with the European Union of the Government of the Canary Islands has established the extraordinary and temporary bonus to the price of certain fuels derived from petroleum refining by 20 cents for the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma for this second quarter of the year.
For the calculation of the amount and the islands in which the bonus will be activated in this period, the fuel price differential of the non-capital islands with respect to Gran Canaria and Tenerife from January 1 to March 15 is taken into account, a note from the Treasury reports.
If the price of 95 gasoline or diesel A on a non-capital island is equal to or higher by five cents per liter than the average price registered on the capital islands, the bonus is activated, which can range between five and 30 cents per liter depending on the existing price differential in the previous period taken as reference.
The measure is included in the General Budget Law of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2026 and, therefore, will be in force until December 31 of this year.
The Minister of Finance, Matilde Asián, has assured that the bonus is guaranteed for all this year and that the only quarterly variation corresponds to the determination of the amounts and beneficiary islands.
“The objective is to adjust ourselves at all times to reality and to individually compensate for the extra costs and imbalances that occur in each of the non-capital islands, so as not to harm the economic activity or the residents of those islands,” he stressed.
This order with the update of the bonus will be applicable in the months of April, May and June.
