The Canary Islands will begin vaccinating against Covid on December 27

The spokesman for the Canary Islands Government, Julio Pérez, announced this Friday that the Canary Islands will receive a total of 54,600 doses of vaccines from the company Pfizer on December 24 and 25, which will allow the campaign to begin next Sunday the 27th.

In a press conference to report on the agreements of the Governing Council, he commented that "it is the most important news" of the day and specified that this vaccine model needs to be injected twice with a difference of 21 days.

Thus, vaccination will start with the groups of "highest risk", specifically residents in social health and disability centers, plus workers, and health personnel of the autonomous community, a total volume of about 45,000 people.

The Government's objective is to carry out about 6,000 vaccinations per week and 34,125 doses have been reserved for the first session, followed by another three shipments of 6,825 doses each.

Pérez pointed out that vaccination will last "several months" and will be distributed by groups of vulnerable population and not geographical territories, hence Tenerife will not have priority despite the strong incidence of the coronavirus.
