The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, received the report "The State of Poverty in the Canary Islands 2025," prepared by the European Network to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion in the Canary Islands (EAPN-Canarias). The document, based on the European AROPE indicators, offers an updated overview of the evolution of poverty and social exclusion in the islands.
According to the data presented, 31.2% of the population of the Canary Islands is at risk of poverty and/or social exclusion; the lowest figure recorded in the last decade, which reflects a slight improvement compared to previous years. However, the report warns that housing continues to be one of the main factors of impoverishment.
Esther Gálvez, president of EAPN Canarias, and Laura Hernández, member of EAPN Canarias, were present during the presentation to President Pérez. Both presented the main results and challenges of the study, emphasizing the importance of consolidating sustained inclusion policies and guaranteeing equal opportunities throughout the island territory.
The breakdown before the media was carried out by the vice president of EAPN Canarias, Fernando Rodríguez.
For her part, President Astrid Pérez highlighted "the relevance of having a precise study that allows us to know the indicators of poverty and social exclusion in the islands so that public institutions can act knowing the real situation of the most vulnerable people in the Canary Islands."
