The Parliament of the Canary Islands premiered this Monday the second installment of the videopodcast Open Parliament that deals with the problem of water on the islands, an institutional space promoted by its president, Astrid Pérez, which seeks to bring the activity of the Chamber closer to citizens and open the debate on the main challenges of the archipelago.
The new episode, published on the Parliament's social networks, was dedicated to "The challenges of water in the Canary Islands" and brought together representatives of the different parliamentary groups to debate the serious water situation currently affecting the archipelago.
"We are facing a critical situation that requires agreed responses and sustainable solutions. Parliament cannot be oblivious to the debate on water, a fundamental resource for the present and future of the Canary Islands," said Astrid Pérez in the introduction of the episode, where she also highlighted the need to open public spaces for dialogue such as this videopodcast.
Manuel Fumero, from the Socialist Group, Diana Lorenzo, from the Canarian Nationalist Group, Rebeca Paniagua from the Popular Party, Carmen Hernández, from Nueva Canarias–Canarista Bloc and Paula Jover from VOX participated in the political table.
During the debate, issues such as the impact of drought on agriculture, the role of desalination plants, water reuse, the use of infrastructures such as dams, and the need to raise awareness among citizens about the responsible use of the resource were addressed.
This second episode adds to the one broadcast on August 8, which featured the participation of experts and professionals from the water sector. Both contents form a complementary, technical and political vision on one of the most urgent problems for the Canary Islands.
Open Parliament is a pioneering initiative in the parliaments of Spain that reinforces the Chamber's commitment to transparency, participation and quality public communication.
