The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Energy, has published the call for subsidies for a total amount of 2.5 million euros to promote actions to improve energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies in public infrastructures, co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) within the framework of the Canary Islands Operational Program.
The Minister responsible for the Area, José Antonio Valbuena, recalled the exemplary role of public administrations in the energy transition and decarbonization. “The regulatory ecosystem that we have designed marks it and mandates that administrations must reinvest the economic savings they achieve in this way to promote self-consumption and energy efficiency among citizens”, he pointed out.
For his part, the Deputy Minister for the Fight against Climate Change and Ecological Transition, Miguel Ángel Pérez, pointed out that “all municipalities, councils and associations of municipalities may benefit from this call”. The actions included within these grants, according to the Ministry, have to do with "energy audits in facilities or buildings, works to improve or replace public lighting equipment, inclusion of energy efficiency criteria in desalination, purification, water treatment and distribution, savings and efficiency measures in municipal buildings and infrastructures or self-consumption through renewable energies associated with desalination, purification, water treatment and distribution infrastructures".
Regarding the subsidizable amount, in the case of energy audits, 50% of the cost of the study will be covered, with a maximum of 25,000 euros.
The General Director of Energy, Rosana Melián, detailed that “for the remaining lines of action, the percentage of subsidy will be 60% with respect to the eligible investment, with a maximum of 80,000 euros per application, understanding as eligible investment that which is necessary and is directly related to the improvement of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies”.
In addition, concepts such as "the preparation by the competent technician of the projects related to the actions, the costs of optional works management, the costs of execution of the civil works associated with the action, those of acquisition of equipment and materials, those of assembly of the installations and the energy efficiency certificates" may be included, as long as the actions that appear as improvement proposals in it are carried out.
On the other hand, the Ministry indicates that a subsidy limit is established for each municipality "based on the population of law of the municipality counted in the last census".
The deadline for submitting applications will begin next Monday, June 6 and will end after 30 calendar days and will be done obligatorily through the computer application for managing the call, located on the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning.
