The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, attended the official events in Madrid this Sunday commemorating October 12th, Hispanic Day, National Day.
An event presided over by Their Majesties The King and Queen, in which 4,000 soldiers participated in the traditional Armed Forces Day parade. This year also commemorated the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the Military Emergency Unit, the UME.
The events were presided over by numerous authorities from across the country, with the president of the Canary Islands' Parliament being the archipelago's sole representative. "It is an honor to represent the islands on this special day as we celebrate the cultural and historical values that unite us as Spaniards," Pérez stated.
After the parade, the authorities were received at the Royal Palace by the King and Queen in the traditional kissing of hands ceremony.
