The Fariones Sports Center will host today at 12:00 hours, the grand final of the Challenger Series Canarias Open Isla de Lanzarote with $25,000 in prizes. The Frenchman Jo Wilfried Tsonga and the Swede Filip Prpic, will face each other after winning their respective semi-finals on Friday afternoon.
In an entertaining doubles match, the Frenchmen Gregory Carraz and Jean Michel Pequery prevailed 6/3 and 7/5 over the pair formed by the German Benedikt Dorsch and the Dutchman Steven Korteling, in a match that lasted one hour and 13 minutes.
Yesterday, at half past two in the afternoon, they entered the central court to play the first semi-final match, the Swede Prpic and the German Benedikt Dorsch. The Swede with a tennis of not risking much and more cerebral, although safer and more complete than that of his rival, was controlling the match to his interests, Dorsch falling into the trap and in the thick game of the Swede, seeing himself powerless to get out of the situation. A service break by Prpic in each set, and a match lasting 1 hour 26 minutes, concluded with Prpic's victory by 6/4 and 6/4.
In the other semi-final, Tsonga, coming from the previous phase, with a brave and aggressive tennis, of those that make fans, defeated the German Staedler by 6/3 and 6/4 in one hour and 23 minutes, in a very beautiful match followed by quite a few people, more than the previous one, with several plays by both contenders being applauded. Tsonga, at the end of the match, stated that he felt well physically, better than the previous day when he finished very tired, adding that in tomorrow's final, with the prescriptive rest he would be much better.
The final is served, since Tsonga, 313 in the world, and his rival the Swede Prpic, the 240th and best classified, will play a match with two different styles, but that can give a show. Today a lot of public is expected in the stands of the Fariones Sports Center, the entrance is free.
After the decisive match, the president of the Cabildo Inés Rojas, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, together with Bienvenido Saavedra, general director of the Fariones Group, will be in charge of presenting the trophies.
