On Saturday afternoon, the thirteenth edition of the San Juan Swimming Crossing / Real Club Náutico de Arrecife was held, an event that brought together more than 200 swimmers of all ages in the bay of Arrecife. A swimming crossing marked by the absence of the winners of the first two events of the Lanzarote Open Water Cup season and in which new winners were seen at the top of the podium. Federico Bini (CD Nonadamos) and Roberta Bornaghi (CN Nadamás) were the absolute winners of the San Juan Swimming Crossing.
The afternoon began with the pre-Benjamin category swimmers, who completed a participatory crossing in which they had to complete 50 meters swimming. Each of the participants in this category received a souvenir of their participation, with the aim of continuing to promote swimming among the youngest.
The swimmers in the Benjamin category were the next to start, having to complete a 400-meter circuit. Hugo Rijo (Nonadamos) was the winner of the event with a time of 6 minutes and 24 seconds, with Alejandro Ibarra (Nadamas) completing the podium in second place and Oscar Pérez (Nonadamos) in third place. In the women's category, the winner was Denby Hoppe (Nonadamos) with a record of 6 minutes and 25 seconds. The second classified was Nadia Martín (Nonadamos) and the third place went to Irene Díaz (Nonadamos).
The training categories were completed with the children's event, with the twenty participating swimmers completing a course of 800 meters. Oscar Martín (Nonadamos) with a time of 11 minutes and 17 seconds, was the winner of the San Juan Swimming Crossing, with Iñigo Santamaría (Trimakina) completing the podium in second place and Gabriel González (Nonadamos) in third place. The second place of Iñigo Santamaría, a swimmer who on Saturday morning had participated in several events of the Canary Islands Athletics Championship for Minors, is significant. In the women's category, the winner was Ana Gómez (Nadamas) with a record of 11 minutes and 37 seconds, with Carla Pérez (Nonadamos) second and Silvia Martín (Nonadamos) third.
1,200 meter course for the rest of the categories
The rest of the categories of the San Juan Swimming Crossing / Real Club Náutico de Arrecife had the participation of just over 200 swimmers. All of them had to complete a 1,200 meter course with departure and arrival at the access ramp to the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The San Juan Swimming Crossing is the third event of the season of the Lanzarote Swimming Cup in Open Waters, a competition that celebrates its seventh edition this year.
The victory in the men's category went to the child Federico Bini (Nonadamos), using a time of 17 minutes and 27 seconds to complete the 1,200 meters of the course. The winner maintained a tough fight with Victors Vovrusko (CN Reales), being the second classified just two seconds behind. The podium was completed with the third place of Víctor Manuel González (Triatlón Pisuerga), from Valladolid, with a time of 17 minutes and 46 seconds.
In the women's category, the victory went to Roberta Bornaghi (Nadamas) with a record of 18 minutes and 36 seconds. The second place on the podium went to Marta Santana (Nadamas) with 18 minutes and 44 seconds. And the third place on the podium was shared by Raquel Martín and Ariadna Pérez, swimmers from CD Nonadamos who crossed the finish line together with a time of 19 minutes and 42 seconds.
The XIII San Juan Swimming Crossing concluded with the awarding of trophies for each of the categories, an event that took place on the terrace of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and was attended by Patricia Pérez, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. The fourth event of the season of the Lanzarote Swimming Cup in Open Waters will be held on July 17, with the Playa Blanca Swimming Crossing.
