Seven minutes before one in the morning, the delegation transporting the coffin with the mortal remains of the former president of the Government, Adán Martín, arrived at the headquarters of the Presidency in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where approximately 300 people applauded the descent of the coffin by several agents of the four police forces that operate in the Canary Islands.
The delegation, which was received by President Paulino Rivero and all the members of the Executive, was chaired by Martín's widow, Pilar Parejo, and included the Minister of the Presidency, José Miguel Ruano, who was in charge of supervising the transfer of the mortal remains from the Southern Airport; former President Manuel Hermoso and his wife, Asunción Varela, the CC spokesperson in Congress, Ana Oramas; the deputy for Tenerife and Martín's sister-in-law, Dulce Xerach Pérez, as well as the brothers and children of the former president.
At the doors of the Executive's Presidency in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the President of Parliament, Antonio Castro; the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Miguel Zerolo; the President of the local CC committee in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Juan Manuel Bermúdez; the President of the PSC, Dolores Padrón, and the President of the PP of Tenerife, Cristina Tavío, as well as the Bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Bernardo Álvarez, gathered to receive the body of the former President of the Government.
The coffin was transported to the burning chapel located in the so-called presidential hall of the headquarters designed, precisely, by Fernando Martín Menis, one of the former president's brothers. In this hall, the inauguration of the Government's councillors is usually held and it hosted the dinner that was offered to the Kings of Spain three years ago.
At the request of the family, who want the official events to be as simple as possible, President Rivero presented the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands to Martín's widow in the same burning chapel.
Located in the centre of the room and presided over by a huge portrait of a smiling Adán Martín, the mortal remains are escorted by four police officers, one for each body, and to the right of it are the family and closest friends of the former president, while to the left of the coffin are the members of the Government, with Paulino Rivero at the head, and the mayor of Santa Cruz.
The burning chapel, which was visited during the first hour by more than 400 citizens, will remain open to the public until 2:00 p.m. today, Monday. At 2:30 p.m., the coffin and the funeral procession will move on foot to the Church of the Conception, where at 3:00 p.m. the corpore in sepulto mass of the former president will be officiated.
The burial, at the express wish of the family, will be a private ceremony.
