The works of the Castle of Santa Bárbara have been "paralyzed for months" and the PSOE fears that the financing will be lost

“In the last plenary session, the government group of Teguise argued that they are selecting the mortar, which is surprising because, at least since March, the works have been suspended,” says councilor Jaime Guerra

The PSOE of Teguise has shown its "concern" for the paralysis suffered by the restoration works of the Castle of Santa Bárbara, where the Piracy Museum is located.

Councilor Jaime Guerra considers that “this is a necessary intervention that also has important funding from the Ministry of Development charged to the 1.5% cultural program, which, however, may be compromised if the situation of paralysis continues.”

“Once again, the execution of an investment in our municipality is eternalized and the explanations that have been provided to us so far are scarce, which is why we will request the appearance of the mayor in the next plenary session,” the councilor has advanced.

“Even more so when the government group, in response to a plenary question from the PSOE, only stated that the suspension is due to the selection of the mortar, which is surprising because the works have been paralyzed at least since March,” he adds.

“We do not want what happened with other investments such as the La Graciosa teleclub or the Paseo de Las Cucharas to be repeated, where delays and unsatisfactory executions have been the norm, and therefore we ask for maximum information and diligence from the government group,” concluded Jaime Guerra.

It should be remembered that at the end of 2019 the City Council awarded Sustratal S.L., a company specialized in the restoration of artistic historical monuments, the intervention "Basic and execution project of interventions in the Castle of Santa Bárbara, Guanapay, Teguise, Lanzarote". Its cost is 761,031.71 euros plus IGIC, with an execution period of eleven months.
