The municipal secretary of the Tinajo City Council, Natalia García Valcárcel, will soon leave her position "for personal reasons", although she has not yet formalized her resignation, waiting to find another destination. This has been confirmed by herself to La Voz, after the harsh exchange of statements that took place this Monday on Radio Lanzarote, between the councilor of Opción por Lanzarote, Nicanor Rodríguez, and the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín.

It was Nicanor Rodríguez who advanced this news on Radio Lanzarote. The councilor has not clearly explained the reasons for this resignation, but he has hinted that "something is known". "We believe that it is not for personal matters, because there are already two councilors who have resigned for personal matters and a third who has to join the Corporation and who has been thinking about it for two weeks. Maybe it is that the City Council is so bad that it is scary," the councilor pointed out.

Upon learning that the secretary, who has been in office for "less than a year", is going to resign, Rodríguez assures that he has been "amazed". "We have been stunned. All the parties have supported her, because she has done a very good job. I know that she is a person who works very hard and now this surprise comes to us," he indicated.

Rodríguez will request an extraordinary and urgent plenary session so that the mayor, Jesús Machín, can explain "what is happening in Tinajo". "This cannot be. There have been several resignations and no one gives explanations, there are only rumors. When we have documentation, which we will have, we will know what is happening and the people will know. This is not normal. It is a government group that has an absolute majority and that is causing instability," he denounced.

"I was surprised and disappointed"

These words of Nicanor Rodríguez have not been well received by Jesús Machín, who intervened immediately afterwards on Radio Lanzarote. "I was surprised and disappointed," Machín said in reference to the councilor of Opción por Lanzarote. The mayor of Tinajo has assured that he is not going to explain the reasons why the secretary will resign, because "they are personal and I am not going to dare to explain anything".

"I believe that the secretary is a person with a well-furnished and professional head. As of today, she has not resigned. She is trying to find solutions to not leave Tinajo aside," Machín assured, who pointed out that "Natalia deserves all the respect in the world".

But, in addition, Machín wanted to make it clear that "nothing is happening" in the Tinajo City Council and also pointed out that "never in his life" has he asked the secretary "for something that cannot be done". "I do politics out of devotion, because I like to help people. It seems to me a lack of respect that a secretary is being named, who is a civil servant and not a politician. It is a huge mistake of my colleague Nicanor," the mayor stated.

Jesús Machín has assured that the words of the councilor of Opción por Lanzarote, insinuating that the secretary was not leaving for personal reasons but for other reasons, "have hurt me for her and have hurt me for myself". "I was quite surprised. It affects me a lot, because she has a personal problem, which I am not going to explain what, but it hurts me a lot for her, because I have become fond of her and appreciate her. It hurts me that her name comes to light," he lamented.

After listening to these statements, the still secretary of the City Council has denied that her decision is due to a health problem, as some may have interpreted, and has insisted that it responds to personal issues.

For his part, the mayor of Tinajo assures that in the City Council "there is nothing to hide, it is total transparency". "Another thing is when people come with bad intentions, trying to poison. Tinajo is an honest, humble and simple town and its mayor is up to the task of the residents," he insisted.
