The PP majority in the Cabildo of Gran Canaria frustrated this Monday the attempt of the opposition groups to reach agreements that would elucidate what they believe is the alleged political responsibility of the island institution in the so-called 'wind farm plot'. While the PP insisted that its way of acting sought economic profitability, not participating directly in the contest and leasing public land for this purpose, the opposition has accused it of promoting private interest.
Both Nueva Canarias and the Socialist Party accused the PP of being politically responsible and directly involved in the so-called 'wind farm plot', for not having participated in the wind farm contest through the company Magaturbinas de Arinaga, having also granted certificates that put public land owned by the Cabildo to all private entities that requested it.
The government group defended once again that not only does it not participate directly in Megaturbinas de Arinaga, but that the corporate purpose of this "never considered the presentation to wind power contests", as its president, Miguel Jorge Blanco, said, something that the president of the Cabildo, José Manuel Soria, reiterated moments later.
Regarding the concession of public land in Arinaga to the 35 companies that requested it, the Councilor for Finance, Rosa Rodríguez, explained that this was based on a lease (not a sale) whose fees would make the participation of the island corporation much more profitable than its direct participation in the contest. However, she indicated that the annulment of said contest has invalidated these concessions, since, she assured, they depended on obtaining the allocation of power once the contest was decided.
Carmelo Ramírez, councilor of Nueva Canarias, described these arguments as "lies", insisting that the corporate purpose of Megaturbinas de Arinaga is the use of renewable energies, as well as recalling that the wind farm business is defined by its great profitability, doubting what was stated by Rodríguez for not having presented economic documents that would prove it.
For his part, the socialist José Miguel Pérez, presented two documents in which he said that the will of the Cabildo to participate in the contest through the Island Water Council was accredited. Finally, in addition, he asked what was sought with the "indiscriminate" concession of public land when "it is supposed" that it should be carried out among the companies that had more guarantees of carrying out a correct management.
Finally, the socialist Paquita Luengo, described the arguments of the government group as a "legal pantomime" to justify that, as José Manuel Soria himself said, it has acted "based on the principles of transparency and publicity".
