The Superior Headquarters of the Police of the Canary Islands has confirmed this Friday that the dismissal of the Arrecife police commissioner, Luis Mayandía, is due to the "opening of a Reserved Information", which is the previous step to decide whether to open a disciplinary file. In a very brief statement, the body explains that this "reserved information" was opened "in relation to internal events that occurred at the Local Police Station of Arrecife".
As La Voz de Lanzarote advanced, these events could be related to conversations recorded by another official of the Police Station, in work meetings with Mayandía, which would include compromising phrases. This agent even filed a complaint, which was dismissed by Judge Rafael Lis, but he also forwarded the content of these recordings to his superiors, which could have motivated the internal investigation.
The dismissal of Luis Mayandía, as La Voz published this Thursday, has become effective this Friday and has occurred "against the will" of the former commissioner of Arrecife, who arrived in office in February 2016. Regarding his new destination, the Police Headquarters has not explained what it will be, limiting itself to pointing out that he will join "another police staff".
