The Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) of Tías now has a budget allocation of 19,786,829 euros for its expansion and improvement, in addition to the pumping works from Puerto Calero. The project developer, Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes), awarded the works to the companies Obrascón Huarte Laín and Impesapi, a subsidiary of ACS.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, recalls that the government group has been promoting the streamlining of this project for years, holding meetings in Madrid with representatives of Acuaes, a state commercial company dependent on the Ministry for Ecological Transition.
“We are confident that the works will begin in the coming months, and with them, we will respond to the demographic and economic activity growth that the municipality has experienced in recent years. This project is essential for protecting public health and the environment,” states the mayor.
The expansion and improvement project of the Tías EDAR, declared of State General Interest, will be co-financed by Acuaes and the European Regional Development Fund FEDER 2014-2020, within the Spain Multiregional Operational Program (POPE).
The route includes sanitation and reclaimed water collector lines and pumping stations. The objective is to expand the treatment capacity of the EDAR to 12,000 cubic meters per day, considering the horizon year of 2038. It will be a zero-discharge plant, so the water will be reclaimed for subsequent reuse.
This action includes the expansion and adaptation of the current plant to cover the future needs of the towns it serves, Tías and Puerto del Carmen, and to guarantee adequate treatment of wastewater, so that the purified effluent complies with the regulatory limits set by Directive 91/27/EEC.
Taking advantage of the expansion of the EDAR's treatment capacity, the project includes the incorporation of wastewater from the towns of Yaiza and Uga into the facility, which will require providing a sanitation network to both nuclei and executing a new general collector, to which the wastewater from Puerto Calero and Mácher will also be incorporated, via an independent branch.
